On April 29, 2021, it was announced that Bruce Willis would star in soul killer, a thriller in which Nomzamo Mbatha and Dominic Purcell entered negotiations for the star.Filming began on June 15, 2021 in Bessemer, Alabama. In July 2021, Saban Films acquired the distribution rights to the film. In the same month, Barry Jay Minoff was cast in an undisclosed role, while it was revealed that Jeff Elliott produced the film , through Brickell endless media and Broadbridge International, along with 120 decibels Films.In August 2021, Mustafa Shakir has been cast in an undisclosed role.The film was retitled to die like lovers and later to its current title Assassin.Assassin is the last film starring Willis, who retired from acting because he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.By May 2022, Hannah Quinlivan and Fernanda Andrade were cast

Dennis Harvey, of Variety, gave the film a negative review, writing that " the multinational cast seems to come together for reasons other than serving the character's specific needs. None of them is able to rise above the mysterious material".Richard Roeper, of the Chicago Sun-Times, gave the film A rating of 2/5, saying"it's sad to see Bruce Willis in his latest film, lacking his trademark flicker".Robert kugder , from The Legend of flickering, gave the film A rating of 1.5/5, summarizing that it is " a nonsensical and boring click that does not arouse excitement even when it switches to motion mode

Assassin is scheduled to be released by Saban Films in select theaters and video on demand on March 31, 2023. Detective Knight: independence, meanwhile, is scheduled to be released by Lionsgate in select theaters and video on demand on January 20, 2023, followed by a DVD and Blu-ray release on February 28, 2023
