In coming out fighting, writer / director Stephen Locke returns to some of the themes of his previous film, Operation Sea Wolf, World War II and the contribution of African American units to the war effort. This is definitely an area with a lot of potential to tell a compelling story but given the lackluster plot and the pacing of this movie, The question is Can he tell someone
As the film opens, two American pilots return to the base when they spot a German supply train and take a pass in it. They destroy the train but it also leaves them in the scenes of I 262. One of the pilots lieutenant Ross (Kellan Lutz, Twilight, Expendables 3) managed to rescue, but he is far from enemy lines
In other places, the Allied troops under the command of Major Anderson (Dolph Lundgren, Division 8, Blackwater) were detained by a minefield. Mine disposal crew, Lieutenant Hayes (Hiram A.Murray, the unknown killers, the last son), Sergeant McCarron (Michael Jay White, Black Friday, the dead zone) and special buttons (rich Lowe, oratory, the Great War). But before they could complete the task, the Germans launched an attack
Hayes is accused of causing the ambush by not clearing the mines in time, although in fact the fault lies with the troops who failed to explore and clear the area. He is sent back to Division headquarters pending investigation, but the convoy gets lost and ends up behind German lines and under attack. He runs away in the confusion and runs into lieutenant Ross in the forest
If you can forgive the terrible SGI planes and train in the opening sequence, the first half hour of the combat exit is not so bad. Luke shows a better understanding of how to organize a land battle than he did in putting naval warfare on the screen and both combat scenes we get are effective if concise
What's less effective is, well just about everything else is in out-fighting that leans heavily on cliches. There is such a racist Southern contingent that they refuse to help Hayes even though he knows the area they are traveling through. Of course, they are also so incompetent that they cannot hear German armor pulling in front of them. Major Anderson wants to send a party looking for Hayes, but the headquarters has different priorities so he can't do anything until it is indicated that the missing white pilot is somewhere in the same sector
Most of the middle part of the film consists of preparations for the search for Hayes either informally or after Anderson talks to the nearby General Patton by chance (Gary David Kist, Hellfire, devil's hour) "you are in charge of those black tankers, a powerful cool job you are doing with these boys", officially. Occasionally we see Ross and Hayes fighting, talking about coincidences, and running into another minefield
I understand that this was filmed on a less than lavish budget and that things like armor rental and uniforms ate up a large part of it. But if you are going to move away from the action, you need a strong dialogue to maintain the viewer's interest. Coming out fighting offers cliches and heavy morals instead. Which means it's hard work until those "black tankers" appear under the command of Sergeant Chrissy (Tyrese Gibson, order, Morbius) to help in the search
Unfortunately, neither Gibson nor his tanks really have much to do. Most of the scenes from them in action are the same video game-like shots of a tower moving back and forth or firing a machine gun. There is also an unintentionally funny scene of a SGI tank racing into battle in what appears to be a hyperspeed. For his part, Gibson barely appears on the screen and many of Chrissy's scenes in the tank are so dark that they could easily be duplicated. Lundgren gets more screen time but spends it all at the base, mostly behind a desk
While it's not as bad as a lot of Modern World War II-themed movies, come out fighting isn't a particularly good movie either. Poor CGI, cliches and undeveloped characters take their toll and the budget does not allow this kind of action scenes to distract attention from these shortcomings. Undemanding fans of war films may find it acceptable, but most will be disappointed

Dolph Lundgren

Born on November 3, 1957 in Stockholm to a mother who is a language teacher (Sigrid) and a Swedish engineer and economist father (Karl), Dolph Lundgren attended the prestigious Royal Institute of Technology in his hometown where he obtained a master's degree in chemistry. The youngest of four children, he devotes himself to his studies. I've spent so much time poring over books that I should have an indelible ink stain at the end of my nose, he smiles. At the time I wanted to imitate my father and start an engineering career. Far be it from me to think about cinema and show business in general
Thanks to a scholarship, he left his country in 1977 for a year to continue his studies at Washington State University. He then returned to Sweden and graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology. After his military service in the navy, he attended the universities of Sydney and Boston, helped in this by scholarships (including a Fulbright program for the prestigious M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology))
At the age of sixteen, he turned to martial arts. After trying judo, he engages in the practice of karate, first in the gōjū-ryū style, then in a style more focused on combat with live strikes, kyokushinkai. He began high-level competition in 1979, even before being a black belt (which he obtained in 1981), and participated in the second world championship, where he was among the last thirty-two competitors (losing to the defending champion after several extensions). He then accumulated national titles, winning in particular the British Open in 1980 and 1981 — which had the value at the time of European level championship - then the Australian Open in 1982. For the purposes of the film Pentathlon, released in 1994, he trained with the American pentathlon team in 1993. This is what allows him to participate in the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 as (honorary) captain of the American team
Refusing the proposals of the greatest boxing managers in the United States, he still thinks of devoting himself to studies when he meets the drama teacher Warren Robertson, disciple of Lee Strasberg, one of the founders of the Actors Studio. He decides to become an actor and gets the role of a KGB agent in Dangerously Yours through his current flirt, the singer Grace Jones. This modest participation marks his cinematic debut. A debut that could have been made with Rambo 2: The Mission, a film for which he auditioned. But Sylvester Stallone preferred that he play in Rocky 4, despite the reluctance of the casting teams. The choice is wise since Lundgren interprets his role in a masterful way, which allows him to become overnight one of the greatest hopes of action cinema

Tyrese Gibson

Tyrese Darnell Gibson (born December 30, 1978) is an American actor and singer. He released his self-titled debut album in 1998, which included the single "sweet lady", and peaked at Number Twelve on the US Billboard Hot 100. The latter contained the lead single" How would you behave like that", which became Gibson's highest-charting single, reaching number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. His fourth album, alter ego, explored hip hop, while he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R & B Album for his fifth album, open invitation (2011). Gibson's sixth studio album, Black Rose (2015), debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, becoming his highest-charting album. He has sold over 4 million records in the United States

Gibson had his first starring role in John Singleton's film Hood coming of age as a baby (2001), and then began appearing as Roman Pierce in the fast and the Furious franchise.
